1 dead and 1 seriously injured in Keystone Heights

Personal Injury Medical Bills

Oh, I hate these stories and yet they come up again and again.  We are all in such a rush to get to somewhere that we forget about safety and obeying the rules of the road.  I hate single lane roads just like the next person but I rarely, if ever, try to pass a slower moving car, and if I do – it is a dotted lane, not a double yellow line.  This is why this story is so tragic.  A 21-year-old woman, of Keystone Heights died at the scene of the crash and A 26-year-old Melrose man suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened at County Road 214 at Casa Grande Boulevard.  The 26 year old was taken to UF Health Shands in Gainesville in stable but critical condition.
According to the FHP report, the Keystone Heights female was traveling eastbound on CR 214 and attempted to pass a car ahead of her that had slowed to turn left onto Casa Grande Boulevard. The Melrose man’s car was traveling westbound on CR 214 approaching the intersection at Casa Grande Boulevard, when the female’s car crossed the double yellow center lines of the roadway and hit  his car head on. The woman was not wearing her seat belt, nor was the man in the Sierra.4.
Statistics prove that head on collisions on rural roads are fatal.  Studies have found  that 75 percent of head-on crashes occur on rural roads, 75 percent of head-on crashes occur on undivided two-lane roads, and 83 percent of two-lane undivided road crashes occur on rural roads.
Our thoughts and prayers are with these injured drivers and their families.  Our condolences go out to the family of the 21 year female, and we hope for a speedy recovery for the 26 year old male.
