A Fernandina Beach man was killed recently when his SUV was struck head-on after a Federal Express truck, that was originally going southbound, crossed a divider barrier, and went into the northbound lanes on I-95 where this man was traveling. The Times Union reports the 44-year-old man was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox north of Brunswick about 6:30 a.m. when it collided with a 2016 Freightliner tractor pulling tandem trailers, the Georgia State Patrol said.  According to the preliminary accident report, the driver of the truck, nor his passenger, who was in the sleeping compartment of the cab, were injured.  After the accident, the Equinox came to rest across the lanes a few hundred yards north of the Spur 25 overpass. The tractor-trailer continued across all four northbound lanes until it came to rest facing west across the on-ramp with the second trailer overturned.  Packages were strewn diagonally from the median across all four lanes.

All of us at Edwards & Ragatz are heartbroken for this tragic loss that was probably avoidable and took the life of a young man.  We know the family of this man must be distraught.

This accident is like a case that Jacksonville personal injury lawyers Tom Edwards and Eric Ragatz took to trial and won a $4.1 million jury verdict for a local woman. Corrie Stearns Johnson suffered permanent injuries after a Rent Way truck driver plowed over the young mother’s car while she was driving. A diabetic blackout sent the truck driver into an eight-mile rampage, sideswiping two cars before driving over the top of Johnson’s Honda Civic, crushing it and trapping Johnson inside. She was eventually removed using the jaws of life but she sustained permanent injuries to her arms and legs.
