Deadly Accidents

Deadly accidents occur on I-95 in St. John’s County. According to News4Jax, I-95 in St. John’s County was a scene of disastrous accidents this past Thursday.  The cause of the accidents – probably speeding and distractions.  The first accident occurred at I-95 north and County Road 210 at approximately 8.a.m.  The crash involved a flipped truck, and traffic was slow for hours as authorities worked to clear debris from the highway. The driver of the truck was taken to Baptist South.  The second accident was deadly.  A semi and a car were involved in a fatal crash Thursday on Interstate 95 northbound at International Golf Parkway. The crash happened about 10 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol website.  The driver of the car was killed and his passenger suffered serious injuries.  The driver of the semi who is from Eastman, Georgia was not injured when the semi smashed into a tree after hitting the car.  The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said the on ramp to IGP and two lanes of I-95 northbound were closed because of the crash. A third crash was reported about 1 p.m., south of the deadly crash at IGP. That crash involved a tractor-trailer, a truck and at least three cars.  One person was flown to UF Health with serious injuries and three more were taken to Baptist South with minor injuries. The semi driver in that crash told News4Jax that the accident happened in a matter of seconds.  He also told News4Jax, who is a driver from Atlanta, that one of the drivers in his crash was speeding when traffic slowed, causing the accident. Investigators haven’t indicated whether speed was involved in the crash.

Did you know that down this corridor of I-95, 25 have died in the past twelve months? Also, St. Johns County had the most fatal crashes in the region along the I-95 corridor in 2014.  News4Jax did an investigation last year and showed that between April 2014 and April 2015, there were 62 accidents along that particular corridor, three of them deadly. The worst area was around CR 210.  Another bad area for wrecks is near International Golf Parkway and State Road 16.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who died and were injured in these horrific deadly accidents.
