car accidentVarious news sites are reporting on a horrible accident that occurred this morning on the Southside.  A 5-year-old girl was critically hurt and four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and witnesses at the scene.  The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Baymeadows Road at Interstate 295 just after 9 a.m.   According to fire and rescue personnel, five people were involved in the crash.  There were two adults in one car and two adults and a child in another car.

Two women who witnessed the crash helped the girl and said they stayed with her to make sure she was calm before emergency crews arrived.  Christine Rusbuld told the girl what it would be like when rescuers got there.  “It was going to be like a magic carpet ride, because i knew it was a scary thing for kids, especially with a ton of strangers,” Rusbuld said. “I noticed that her booster seat was not where it should have been because of the accident itself, so we just tried to keep her awake until the paramedics got there.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the occupants of both vehicles and hope they all get well soon.
