Channel 4 reports there was a horrible accident on Tuesday night which resulted in a driver in the hospital with critical injuries. The accident took place on I-95 southbound near Old S. Augustine Road when a dump truck carrying concrete was slowing down to exit the highway and a 28-year-old male rear-ended the truck. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department tweeted out that crews had to cut the roof off of the car to get to the driver of the car. The 28 year-old male was taken to UF Health. According to FHP, the driver of the dump truck is okay. There was another devastating wreck Tuesday night in St. Johns County. A 50 year-old man died after being hit by a car on Datil Pepper Road at US-1 while riding a bicycle. According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue Sgt. Dylan Bryan, the accident happened around 9:12 p.m. FHP said the 18 year-old female driver was traveling US-1 southbound and the 50 year-old bicyclist was traveling eastbound on Datil Pepper Road. The male was crossing the intersection of Datil Pepper Road and US-1, when he traveled into the path of the car and was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Charges are pending.
