Edwards & Ragatz, P.A. is proud to announce that one of our trial victories has been recognized among the Top 100 Wrongful Death Verdicts in the United States for 2024 by Top Verdict™, an independent publication that ranks the nation’s largest jury results based on verified case outcomes.
Our firm’s $4.5 million medical malpractice verdict in the case of Estate of Sullivan v. Rojas, et al. ranked #85 nationwide, underscoring our continued leadership in complex medical negligence and wrongful death litigation.
The case was tried by Attorneys Thomas S. Edwards Jr. and Douglas H. Clifton, who represented the family of Mr. Sullivan, a husband and father who died after physicians at a Jacksonville hospital failed to properly monitor and treat his worsening cardiac condition.
As detailed in Jurimatic’s coverage of the case, the jury found two physicians negligent for failing to respond to clear signs of cardiac distress and elevated troponin levels. The verdict held them accountable for repeated lapses in monitoring, failure to escalate care, and the resulting fatal cardiac arrest.
The jury awarded $4.5 million in total damages, including compensation for the loss of companionship, protection, and mental anguish suffered by Mr. Sullivan’s wife and children, as well as economic and estate-related losses under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act. Because the jury verdict significantly exceeded a prior reasonable offer to settle the case, Florida law provided the right to attorney’s fees and costs of the case, in addition to the jury verdict for damages.
This national recognition reflects the work we do every day on behalf of patients and families harmed by preventable medical errors. Our firm has secured some of Florida’s most substantial results, including $228 million and $178 million recoveries in landmark medical malpractice and personal injury cases.
Most importantly, we are grateful to the Sullivan family for trusting us with their case. We remain committed to pursuing accountability and meaningful outcomes for families whose lives have been forever changed by negligence.
